Goal Tycoon
What is Goal Tycoon?
Goal Tycoon is a game where you take on the role of a manager of a prestigious football club. You build up your park (your stadium and all your support facilities), in order to increase the performance of your team. As your team does well in matches, they get more fans who attend the football games. Naturally, you sell tickets to these fans to attend, and you make most of your money from ticket sales (though you also make money from league bonuses).
It is essentially very similar (if not more complex) to fantasy sports leagues. Only instead of basing your fantasy team's performance off of real players, your players are entirely fictional and have a set of statistics that influence how well they play. As you designate your players for different positions, you will want to train them in different skills to increase their performance. Thus, you have far more control over this team than you would in a fantasy league.
Goal Tycoon differs tremendously from fantasy sports leagues (most of them anyhow), in that you can earn real cash for playing. As your team generates ticket sales, you receive game dollars for these ticket sales. These game dollars are used to pay for team salary, transportation fees, and upkeep costs, but assuming you have managed your team well, you will have a surplus.
These surplus game dollars can be traded up to gold in order to upgrade the facilities of your park. Facility upgrades will increase your popularity, stadium capacity, player energy, training speed, and so forth. If you have a surplus of gold, you can trade the gold up to Euros.
Euros can be used to buy a few select items in the game to help improve performance, like energy drinks, or business licenses (allowing you to buy and sell players). You could potentially model your team to be a training locale, turning out the best players in your federation. You can even use the Euro to buy shares of the actual game, and watch as payments into upgrades and other things eventually build up in the partner fund, which is distributed once the fund reaches 10,000 Euro.
Finally, if you have a good surplus and nothing else you want to spend on; you can withdraw your hard-earned Euros via Paypal. Its not easy to be profitable in the long run, but if you have any management acumen, you can make it happen.
So, are you ready? Read on, and I will tell you more about the actual mechanics of this new game!

The Main Page
The Main Page of Goal Tycoon shows some very pertinent information to your up and coming empire. You have eight main pages at the top: Home, Matches, City, Market, Funds, Partners, Referrals and Forum.
This guide will deal with Home & Matches. Future guides will cover how to upgrade your park and the products on the market and where they come from.
On the right side of the page, it lists information dealing with how your team is doing in the league. This is important to know, as not all leagues are created equal. League 1 is considered the best league in the federation, and the victory bonuses in League 1 are higher than League 2, which are higher than League 3, and so on. As a manager of your team, if you aren't in League 1, you want to be in League 1. You do this by winning games and being in the top two spots in your league. Be warned though, if your team loses to much and you end up in the bottom two spots, you will go down the league ladder.
At the center of the home-page you have a list of current bonuses offered as well as a picture of the current state of your park. As the federation gains more money, the payout of bonuses for victory increases, yet another reason that you want to keep your team victorious. Naturally, you want to win your league, if you can, so that you can get the tournament fund as well.
On the left are personal details, including club balances, personal balances and your portrait. Of course, the portrait is not yet activated. Below that are a number of options, which allow you to see matches, training, and so forth.
Your Team
In any given Football team, there are ten positions plus the Keeper. You have your forwards, your midfields, and your backs. There are many variations of these three position you can choose as a standard tactic for your team. When you decide what formation you will use, you should keep it, and make sure to train your team to specialize in it. Most importantly, do not change tactics in the middle of the season. Your team gets a bonus to their performance for every day that they spend in that special formation, up to 20 days or so. So, if you change formation 10 days into a season, and the enemy has kept their formation for 20 days, they will have a significant advantage over you.
When training, you need to focus on different skill sets for each of your different players. If you have the opportunity to train them as youths, I would focus on Stamina, Speed, Passing, Dribbling, and Long Shot aiming to get each statistic to 20 before you move them to the 1st team. Once they are in 1st Team (or beforehand if you can afford it), you should specialize their training as below.
:Forward
Primary: Speed, Long Shot, Shot
Secondary: Headshot, Dribbling
:Midfielder
Primary: Stamina, Passing, Dribbling
Secondary: Tackling, Long Shot
:Back
Primary: Speed, Tackling, Passing
Secondary: Long Shot, Dribbling
You should attempt to get all secondary skills listed above to at least 30%; and then attempt to get the Primary Skills as high as you can possibly get them. This gives your players a great range of skill-sets, and some interchangeability. For example, your team will have superior ability to take control in the back.
However, while these are good recommendations, don't be afraid to get creative. I have one Offensive Midfielder who has very high Tackling ability. He is able to overwhelm enemy midfielders and can often deliver a point or two per match.
Also, don't forget to set a Season Bonus and a Per Match Bonus. You should be conscious of when your playing a 'tough' team, and set your Match Bonus at that time. You should maximize your season bonus if you can, to give your team a great chance in all games.
Training
The Little Touches
Lastly, there is an interesting system for designing your team logo and uniforms. This is completely aesthetic, but to me it is very fun to design uniforms. It really makes the experience seem more real and makes it seem like the 'Knights' are a real club with real fans.
Anyhow, take these simple lessons, and implement them as much or as little as you feel necessary. If you haven't done so already, please take this time to signup. You can find a link above!
